Are hen parties dying?

Just a few years ago, it was difficult to imagine a hen party without a wild club trip, loud music, pink accessories and the obligatory drink (or five). Meanwhile, today more and more women say: "It's not for me." Is this the end of classic hen parties?
No. This is rather the end of a certain style of their organization. And the beginning of a new, more conscious approach.
What's losing popularity?
In Poznań - and in other large cities - the following are less and less popular:
- club events with lots of alcohol,
- stripper performances,
- dressing up, "evenings with tasks",
- long hours of parties ending with dawn and... a huge hangover.
Instead, completely different needs come to the fore: peace, contact, regeneration and authenticity.
Why do women give up big parties?
There are many reasons. But one of the key things is to be aware of the impact of alcohol and lack of sleep on the body.
1. Lack of sleep – a hidden health saboteur
During an all-night party, we deprive ourselves of one of the body's most important regenerative mechanisms. Sleep is a time when:
- melatonin is secreted, which regulates the circadian rhythm and is responsible for immunity,
- the brain is "cleaned" of toxins thanks to the action of the glymphatic system,
- the level of cortisol, i.e. the stress hormone, decreases,
- micro-damages to muscles and cells are rebuilt,
- the level of hunger and satiety hormones (leptin and ghrelin) stabilizes, which affects our body weight.
Lack of sleep even for one night leads to:
- increasing cortisol levels,
- decreased concentration and mood,
- increased appetite for sugars and fats,
- deterioration of immunity,
- loss of motivation and energy.
Interestingly, the brain is unable to fully "sleep" from a long night. We need 3-5 days of regular, deep sleep to compensate for one all-night party - and only partially.
2. Alcohol - the illusion of relaxation
Although a glass of prosecco or a cocktail may seem like a way to relax and have fun, it is worth knowing what happens to the body after a few drinks:
- dopamine levels increase, but after a few hours they drop sharply, which may result in irritability and low mood,
- melatonin secretion is disrupted, which worsens the quality of sleep (even if we fall asleep faster),
- the liver begins to work intensively on the breakdown of ethanol into acetaldehyde - a toxic substance that the body must get rid of,
- dehydration occurs, which affects the skin, muscles and concentration,
- the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines increases, which increases inflammation in the body.
Alcohol also disrupts hormonal balance, affecting female sex hormones, and reduces serotonin levels, which may deepen the feeling of fatigue and sadness after a party.
What instead? What's hot in Poznań now?
In response to this growing fatigue and the need to spend meaningful time with loved ones, women organize completely different hen parties. Trendy hen party? The following are becoming increasingly popular in Poznań:
- Friends' evenings at the SPA– with massages, wellness zone, facial care and body treatments.
- Beauty and aromatherapy workshops - creating your own cosmetics, Gua Sha facial massage, oil baths.
- Trips to slow places - houses in the forest, glamping sites, small guesthouses with yoga and healthy cuisine.
- Intimate dinners and evenings with yoga, meditation, Tibetan singing bowls concerts.
- Professional photo sessions that become a souvenir that is much more lasting than the memory of the club.
A new dimension of celebration
–Women today want to celebrate in harmony with themselves, not for show– says Małgorzata Korowaj, owner of Chill City SPA. –More and more often, it is supposed to be a day of relief, not relaxation. A meeting where you can relax, breathe and enjoy relationships with close women. Feel beautiful, well-cared for, without pressure.
In turn, Łukasz Korowaj –physiotherapistand co-owner of the SPA – adds:
–I see a change in mentality. Women know that the body is not an inexhaustible source of energy. More and more of them choose rituals that actually support health. Massage helps reduce cortisol levels, improves circulation, and supports the functioning of the lymphatic system. Additionally, it provides space for contact with the body - and this is a luxury today.
Are hen parties coming to an end?
No. They mature with us. And it's a beautiful change. Hen party trends are changing and you have to accept it.
Because instead of cheap gadgets, we choose real presence. Instead of excess alcohol – touch, relaxation and conversation. Instead of pretend fun - real well-being.
And although a dance party in a club will still find its fans, more and more women prefer to wake up in the morning with gratitude rather than with a headache.
